About Your Coach

Andy Mouncey is our coach-in-residence here at Extreme Energy.

Andy practices what he preaches and very definitely walks the talk. He is also a published author, writes regularly for a number of publications and is one of the leading thinkers on high performance – working as he does in sport, education and the corporate world.

In 2003 Andy said goodbye to 17 years in triathlon by setting record stage times for the Enduroman Arch To Arc Challenge: A 300 mile solo triathlon linking London & Paris via an English Channel swim www.enduroman.com

Since then he’s been into his ultrarunning and has, among his race resume, two second places at the UK’s premier trail 100 miler then Montane Lakeland 100.

Andy therefore brings a multi-facetted perspective to his training and coaching. His is a powerful mix of humour, experience, penetrating insight and a skill in getting to the heart of the problem quickly and making the complex seems simple. We are very proud to have him as part of our team.

He is married and lives with his family in the north of England www.bigandscaryrunning.com

Alpine Oasis in the Alps

When it comes to training for ultra and trail races, Alpine Oasis are the experts. They were listed as the no. 1 training holiday provider in the latest issue of Trail Running Magazine, and their coach, Andy Mouncey, has podium finishes at races including the Lakeland 100 under his belt.

For their next training camp, they’re heading to the Mont Blanc Massif from 25 August to 5 September, where they’ll be training on the mighty UTMB course and talking trails with very special guest Jez Bragg, winner of the UTMB in 2010 and the top ultrarunner in the UK today. If you like the sound of that, read on – there’s still time to book!

The Alpine Oasis Mont Blanc Massif Trail Running Camp runs from 25 August to 5 September, and there are options to join the team for a week, a long weekend, or for the full 12 days of coached trailrunning and trail-side spectating at the mighty Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc. You'll refine your technique on challenging and technical terrain; pick up tips from the top; get to grips with navigation, and learn the mountaincraft skills that are essential to safe and successful trail running. What's more, you'll have fun running in the company of like-minded runners, and indulging in plenty of good French food!

The trip is suitable for runners of all levels of experience – whether you’re training for your first off-road half marathon, or you have next year’s UTMB in your sights, you’ll find yourself in good company.
